TRAX 0983 ANTHEMS - WEB REPRINT. After over a quarter of a century, some materials produced as part of the “modular project” TRAX, promoted from 1981 to 1987 by Piermario Ciani, Vittore Baroni and Massimo Giacon, are now made available as free downloads in RMEDL Web Editions. For each work a limited Collector’s Edition on cd, with more multimedial materials, will be also produced. The first release in this new series of reprints - following the double cd Notterossa / Rednight appeared in 2007 on Small Voices - is the concept album Anthems originally appeared in september 1983, with 21 new, ironical and provocative versions of national anthems from real and imaginary countries, created by musicians from various nations. The “concept” was issued in two different editions, as a vinyl LP (in 1000 copies) and as a cassette with booklet (500 copies). This reprint contains all the anthems included in the two TRAX products, plus a double unpublished anthem dedicated to All Frontiers, created for the occasion by Gianluca Becuzzi, who also skillfully remastered all the tracks from their original supports. I hope that these compositions so diverse in style and conception, a testimony of a particularly lively and creative period in the international underground scene, may still instruct and entertain: you have a chance here to listen to a young Masami Akita in one of the rare “musical” works in the huge Merzbow catalogue, as well as to discover gems from the fantastical nations of Naon and Akademgorod. For sure, Laibach enjoyed their participation in the project, since they appropriated the very same idea in 2006 for their Volk album.Heartfelt thanks to all the collaborators old and new: enjoy this planetary networking experience! Be careful about the particles behaviours inside and around you! A must! Ives#1 is a project founded in 2007 by Michael Wertmüller (Alboth, Peter Brötzmann Trio), Marino Piaklas (Steamboat Switzerland, Peter Brötzmann Trio), Thomas Mahmoud (ex Von Spar, Oliver Twist Conspiracy) and Gerd Rische. In the early 90s, Swiss drummer Michael Wertmüller and his band Alboth! (that was occasionally produced by Kevin Martin of God, Techno Animal, The Bug) made a benchmark exploration of new terrain somewhere between Metal, Free Jazz and Noise. In the meantime the classically trained multi-instrumentalist plays in Free Jazz trumpeter Peter Brötzmann’s Trio and is a much sought after composer, whose works are performed at major New Music festivals. Amongst other things he’s collaborated with Wolfgang Hilbig and composed pieces for the legendary Peter Brötzmann Chicago 10tet and for bassist Marino Piaklas’ formation, Steamboat Switzerland. Thomas Mahmoud used to be lead vocalist with the Cologne band, Von Spar, with whom he created a surprising, innovative amalgam of Post-Rock, Indiepop and Prog-Rock before leaving the band after its second album. Mahmoud’s primary interest since launching his solo project, Softgod has been electronic and electro-acoustic music. During a joint artists-in-residency sojourn at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts, Wertmüller and Piaklas met Gerd Rische, a musician and director of the Academy’s electronic studio. After Wertmüller had participated, at Thomas Mahmoud’s invitation, in the latter’s adaptation of an old Dada screenplay, "Der Pleitejazz" by Paul van Ostaijen, he invited Mahmoud to join in rehearsals with Piaklas and Rische at the Academy.
